Abstract

Abstract in english: | Nowadays in the new era of technology, smartphones and tablets are becoming increasingly popular as children’s toys. Even the youngest children can manage devices by using only one finger, which is provided by simple touchscreens, and thus is facilitated the access to technology, games and learning. Many global companies for developing mobile applications have taken advantage of such popularity, particularly Apple’s mobile devices, iPhone and iPad, for making educational applications which allow children to gain different knowledge and skills, all with an interactive, fun and dynamic game. Making children’s educational game is a big challenge for a graphic designer, because it requires a good knowledge of a platform technology, target group’s needs and abilities and the overall development process, beginning from brainstorming, storyboard, designing user interface and each special screen to the game representation on the market of mobile applications through the icon and screenshots. The methodology used in this thesis is primarily the research of competition and review of the most popular and attractive games on the App Store, the creation of child personas, the basis for getting three different game ideas, which are then tested with parents via online questionnaire. Besides selecting the most interesting idea for definitive game designing, the questionnaire provided quantitative information of the possession of smartphones and tablets in Croatia, the most popular children’s games and parent’s judgment of them. The goal is to prove that smartphones and tablets have a positive impact on children and their development, which was also confirmed by parents, and represent the future of gaming and learning. |
