Abstract

Abstract in english: | Thesis is related mainly to the restoration of paper and books, and has been focused on the replacement of certain parts of the materials in the restoration process. All missing parts of the paper should be replaced, and cumulatively, those of the entire text block. Often, parts that have to be replaced are near the very edge of paper or the edges themselves which are in very bad condition, and are often unintentionally further damaged during the initial processes of separating text blocks, soaking, cleaning, and so forth. During the process of restoration most commonly used fabric is Washi, commonly known as Japanese paper. The fibers are produced in several tones so that they can be incorporated in the damaged leaf with almost the same color as the original in the current situation. Depending on the damage, different kind of restoration process can be undertaken. Upon compled restoration of each individual leaf, the restoration of binding is carried out. Text block is usually rebound in original covers if they are not damaged. In other cases, reconstruction of the new cover is taking place, so they look as similar to the original. Depending on its value, restored books are stored in a custom-built cases, and thus conserved in the longer term. |
