Abstract

Tipografija je jedno od glavnih izražajnih sredstava grafičkog dizajna. Kao njena osnovna uloga navodi se davanje vizualnog oblika sadržaju u funkciji apstraktnog nositelja informacija, koji prilikom oblikovanja podliježe određenim pravilima. Eksperimentalna tipografija dovodi u pitanje i unosi određene promjene u te uloge i pravila. U ovom radu proučit će se prijelaz tipografskih znakova iz apstraktnog nositelja informacija u primarno samostalne elemente visoke dekorativnosti. Izradit će se prijedlog pisma koje se koristi u svrhe tog istraživanja, građen od jednostavnih geometrijskih likova koji se ponavljaju tvoreći fraktalne strukture. Kao glavna inspiracija za izrađeni font poslužio je fraktal poznat kao Pitagorino stablo. Teorijski dio rada obuhvatit će pregled nekih od postojećih primjera eksperimentalne tipografije izrađene u različitim medijima i načine na koje se ona koristi. Navest će se tradicionalne tipografske vrijednosti i uloge te načini na koji ih eksperimenti u tipografskoj praksi propituju i mijenjaju. U praktičnom dijelu rada, ispitivat će se čitljivost i prepoznatljivost kreiranih slovnih znakova, njihovo slaganje u riječi, u kompleksne oblike smanjene čitljivosti te u potpuno nečitljive apstraktne strukture koje naglašavaju estetsku vrijednost tipografije i negiraju njenu osnovnu funkciju prenošenja poruke.

Abstract in english:	Typography is one of the main means of expression in graphic design. Its primary role is giving visual form to content as an abstract carrier of information, which is bound to obey certain rules. Experimental typography brings into question and makes changes to its roles and rules. This paper will examine the transformation of typographic symbols from abstract holders of information into independent, highly decorative elements. A sample typeface will be created and used for the research, built out of simple geometric shapes that repeat themselves creating fractal structures. The main inspiration for this typeface is the Pythagorean Tree fractal. The theoretical part of the paper will include an overview of the existing examples of experimental typography realized in various mediums and the ways they are being used. It will also mention the traditional values and roles of typography and how they are being changed by the experiments in the field. The practical part of the paper will examine the legibility and readability of the created typeface and how the letters combine to create words, complex shapes of reduced readability and, finally, completely unreadable abstract structures that put emphasis on the aesthetic value of typography, denying its primary function of carrying the message.
