Abstract

Abstract in english: | World in motion is characteristic of both underwater and of on land taken photography. The moment captured with the camera can not ever again be returned, and on one hand it feels like challenge, and on the other hand, it offers unique magic experience of taking photos underwater. The latter is the theme of this diploma thesis. Circumstances in which the underwater photography is taken are specific because the optical and physical properties of water are significantly different than those of air. Therefore, the equipment, methods of operation, lighting and other shooting conditions require a special approach. It is because of many limitations why the underwater photography is still relatively unexplored world. For the underwater photographer, this is an adventure, an impulse and temptation. Besides having the knowledge of photography, the underwater photographer has to have knowledge of submarine world, and this is why the underwater photography is a combination of hunting and art. While taking photos underwater there is no time to frame the object because they are mostly in motion. The most significant difference between the underwater and on land taken photography is the way the photographer has to move. These specific movements make it impossible for him to make a perfect composition and he has to improvise. Good results in underwater photography require knowledge in basic photography referring to things like adjusting exposure time, aperture, depth-of-field, lens options, photographic flashcubes and etc. The above mentioned segments are discussed in the introductory part of the Basics of the Approach to Taking of Underwater Photography. The thesis is focused on the history and the course of development of underwater photography, the shooting techniques and equipment as well as on the artistic approach and selection of shooting object. The practical part of this diploma thesis consists of my own underwater photograhies which are analysed with regard to technical as well as creative aspect. |
