Abstract

Abstract in english: | Thesis deals with problems of adjusting typography to the needs of people with dyslexia by trying to get familiar with the basic principles of typography, the syndrome of dyslexia and the problems it brings, good readability and legibility of text and characters and typographic variables which are essential to accomplish that. As a practical part of this thesis, a typeface Disleksin was created that is designed to be adapted for people with dyslexia as to, to some extent, ease the difficulties with reading which they may have. Also, the attention was brought to the ways of adjusting the font to Croatian script. In the experimental part, there were quantitative and qualitative examinations of readability of text blocks that typographically differ from each other in the selection of various typefaces and settings as font size and leading. Regarding the results, the conclusions have been made about which choice has the most favorable effect on people with dyslexia compared to control respondents. Tested typefaces were chosen on the recommendations of dyslexia associations, and those are: Times New Roman as a standard serif font, Arial as a standard sans serif font, Comic Sans as an example of handwritten font and Disleksin, the font specifically adjusted for people with dyslexia. |
