Abstract

Abstract in english: The topic of this paper is a deep analysis of composition as a concept in art and its role and significance in art photography. This theoretical research paper is based on studying existing literature about art and the effect of visual stimuli on humans, aswell as applying that knowledge in the field of photography. Using the method of analysis, the problem is approached by breaking it up into its basic components to be thoroughly studied with the intention of describing the importance of composition in the visual arts, especially in art photography. The topic is interdisciplinarily researched and spans through the fields of psychlogy, biology, physics, philosophy and the technical sciences of photography. It is concluded that the human brain interprets beauty as something of evolutionary importance, in other words, as being good for the well being of that organism, which is, very often, found to be symetry, harmony and balance. The rules and principles of composing described in this paper, that serve as help in achieving those qualities in an artistic composition, and helping the artist communicate his intent, have been found in all art photograps analysed in this paper. Art, as a somewhat mystical human activity, showed itself to be an extremely complex topic to objectively research, hence, to preserve the integrity of the work, a very clear framework of discussion and approach needed to be defined. That problem was solved with the categorisation of art into subjective and objective to be able to more holistically explore and explain the problem in both categories.
