Abstract
Alphonse Mucha je slikar i ilustrator, inventivni majstor s kraja XIX.st. i početka XX. st., perioda poznatog pod austrijskim nazivom secesija. Unutar njegovog rada dominira izričita linearnost, koja omogućava crtežu kompozicijsku i izražajnu osobnost. Njegova umjetnost iskazuje specifičan smisao za dekorativnost i eleganciju.

Abstract in english: | Alphonse Mucha was a painter and illustrator, an innovative artist from the end of the 19th and the beginning of the 20th centuries, a period known under the Austrian name Secession. In Latin, secessio means ‘separation’ and here stands for the movement of artists who wanted to separate from the academic art of the 19th century that imitated its role models. During his rich artistic life, he painted, drew, and illustrated many books and magazines, posters, decorative panels, sketches for jewellery and designs for packaging. He produced commissioned frescos and canvases, etc. He received his formal training at Munich Academy of Fine Arts and continued his studies at Academie Julian and Academie Colorossi in Paris. During his professional education, he mastered drawing and painting, and perfected the display of drapery, facial expressions and especially hands. He was gifted in illustrating and lithography for posters and applied arts. Some of the major books he illustrated are Adamite, Scènes et épisodes de l´histoire d´Allemagne, Mémoires d´un éléphant blanc, Ilsée, Princesse de Tripoli and Le Pater. A great turning point in his life was poster Gismonda, which made him famous overnight. His posters always look luxurious in mild pastel, colours. His work is dominated by strict linearity that provides the drawing with compositional and emphatic identity. His artwork displays a specific sense of decorativeness and elegance. |
