Abstract

Abstract in english: Food photography has been around for decades, it's often said that you eat with your eyes first, but also that a picture speaks a thousand words, so what better way to attract a potential customer than with a photo? In the past few years since the boom of social media, this genre of photography has been developing on a much larger scale, and today food photography is climbing the ladder of the most paid and most promising branches of photography. In this day and age, almost every person will first take a photo, publish it on social media, and then start eating the food. It then follows that a photo showing food is necessary in the catering world, because it is a very important "tool" for restaurants to attract potential guests who through photo reviews have insight into the restaurants offer and have the possibility of assessing the restaurant's quality. But simply posting food photos to social media is not enough to attract guests. The quality and execution of the photos play a major role in the potential customer's decision on the meal showed on picture. The process of food photography is not easy, attention should be focused on the arrangement of the food itself, called "food styling", lighting, backdrops, photohraphy angles and post processing. There are several directions of food photography, as well as different ways of food styling. This paper will go through all elements of food photography, from equipment, lighting, file formats, photography props and camera settings, and how to use them to get the desired look. The experimental part will compare minimalist and maximalist "food styling", and will people prefer one of the two types.
