Abstract

Sastav termokromne tiskarske boje uključuje termokromne mikrokapsule i vezivo.

Abstract in english: The composition of the thermochromic printing ink includes thermochromic microcapsules and a binder. Thermochromism is the appearance of a change in color as a result of a phase transition caused by a change in temperature. The reversible thermochromic organic pigment changes color by exposure to heat and returns to its original color after cooling the system. Thermochromic microcapsules usually consist of at least three components - dyes, developers and solvents encapsulated in a polymer shell. Organic thermochromic systems are widely used in various applications such as smart packaging and nowadays as temperature indicators. Their application is limited by poor stability when exposed to UV radiation and various chemicals. If used as indicators for beverage packaging, they may be exposed to different concentrations of alcohol that may affect the functionality of that same indicator. Previous research has shown that the effect of ethanol reduces the functionality of thermochromic dye by destroying the polymer shell of the microcapsule. The results show that the printing substrate can affect the stability of the thermochromic print in reaction with ethanol.
