Abstract

Abstract in english: Daguerreotype was the first practical method of recording images by using light. It was named by Lois Jacques Daguerre Mandela who after studying heliography, developed his technique of making direct prints on copper plates coated with photosensitive layer. Occurrence of this technique led to the improvement of science and research, but in the late 19th century it has been replaced by new techniques of making photographs. It was in second half of the 20th century that this empirical method started being explored and defined scientifically. This paper deals with the origin and history of the daguerreotype, its original technique and various approaches and principles of making daguerreotypes of the nineteenth century, their potential improvement today and current solutions. Various methods with their differences are being compared and analyzed together with their applicability in the present time. In the practical part daguerreotypes are made with one of the classic techniques with exploration of the optimal exposure time and aperture to set the shooting conditions. It also discusses the mechanical and chemical protection of daguerreotypes that due to the specific characteristics of production remain extremely sensitive to atmospheric conditions. The result of the practical part is displayed as an art portfolio of daguerreotypes.
