Abstract

Abstract in english: “In modern times, media, especially television and the Internet, are closely connected with the production and personification of cultural identities. Namely, the conscious use and reuse of stereotypes establishes archetypal societally constructed gender roles for males and females on a subliminal level with receivers of mass media. Once adopted, such gender stereotypes become resistant to change when faced with new information, turning into patterns which form a way of thinking and dealing with other people.“ The differences between the portrayal of women and men in media is indisputable. Although it is apparent that the representation of men in privileged positions when compared to women, both sexes/genders are slaves to fixed patterns and the attributes they dictate. They are based on a cult of youth and cult of social and financial success, standards unreachable by common people and their everyday life. Generating the same messages in different media manipulates the receiver’s perception: repetition and imprinting of information, that society has adopted, into new generations can have detrimental repercussions on an individual’s perception, his or hers worldview, identity, everyday life and personal value system. Many industries have remained specifically thanks to media and their propaganda. Therefore there is no doubt that the same motives can be found in the videogames industry which in its creation of characters and their actions and interaction uses the same sexual, that is, gender stereotypes. With critical and analytical examination, room for deconstruction of established patterns and creating new personal value systems for individuals is made.
