Abstract

Ono što zasigurno obilježava svaku igru osim same mehanike igre i priče, jasno jest stil igre.

Abstract in english: Videogames are a cultural phenomenon which has built it's own artistic expression during the last fifty years. There are hundreds of genres and even more different video game styles which have directly influenced creating memorable games that will surely remain as a testament to the very peak of modern developer's creative visions. What differentiates each games, alongside gameplay mechanics and the story, is the games' own unique style. It can vary drastically from hyper-realistic games, which have become a certain norm amongst popular AAA titles, all up to stylized games with their unnatural character proportions, saturated colours and pronounced shape language. Stylizing games is a very common thing nowadays. Diverting large amounts of funding into modelling an exact likeness of a model or actor is becoming obsolete, thanks to advanced 3D scanners. That's why finding a style which is both specific and memorable, but also not too complicated is quite a task. In case of 2D games, the process is slightly more linear; they can be hand-drawn from start to finish, all the way from animations and characters up to environments and props. While making 3D games, the developers must find a way to breathe life into the cold and technical models. Can they find a way to have strong storytelling even without any words? By analyzing these questions, perhaps it is possible to discover why exactly so many games nowadays have cast away their hyper-realistic clothes and tried their hand at something different.
