Abstract

Fotoesej je forma vizualnog izražavanja u fotografiji i fotonovinarstvu. Fotoesej se sastoji od serije fotografija u kojoj svaka fotografija ima svoju ulogu u pričanju priče ili izlaganju osnovne ideje, a koju bi bilo nemoguće prikazati u jednoj fotografiji. Fotografije u fotoeseju su odabrane i grupirane tako da, osim što pričaju priču, jasno odražavaju osobni stav autora. Dva su osnovna tipa fotoeseja: narativni i tematski. Narativni fotoesej priča priču kroz fotografije slijeda događaja ili radnji. Može pratiti osobu ili događaj kroz određeni vremenski period i prezentirati priču kronološkim redoslijedom. Tematski fotoesej se fokusira na centralnu temu i prezentira ju kroz fotografije koje su vezane za tu temu. Fotoesej je, u stvari, specifičan vid novinske fotografije. Iako je svojom formom definiran, autoru-fotografu daje više slobode u izražavanju od srodnog vida novinske fotografije – fotopriče. Zbog toga se u diplomskom radu teoretski analiziraju vidovi novinske fotografije uz poseban naglasak na fotoesej i fotopriču koji se uspoređuju te se ukazuje na njihove razlike i sličnosti u izražavanju. U praktičnom se dijelu rada izrađuju dva fotoeseja na istu temu kojoj se pristupa na dva različita načina. Istoj temi se pristupa narativno i tematski te se metodom intervjua utvrđuje koja od dvije serije fotografija daje efikasnije rezultate u prenošenju ideja, misli, emocija i impresija.

Abstract in english: Photo essay is a form of visual expression in photography and photojournalism. Photo essay is a compilation of photographs in which every photo has it's par in storytelling or representing the main idea, which would not be possible to present whith only one image. Photo essay groups images in a way to tell a story and represent author's personal attitude on the subject. There are two main types of photo essay: narrative and thematic. Narrative tells the story trough the sequence of evens and shows action. It follows a person or an event trough time period and presents stpry chronologically. In the other hand, thematic photo essay focuses on a central subject and presents it trough images related to the subject. Photo essay, in fact, is a specific way of expression in photojournalism. Although it is defined in it's form, gives more freedom to the author than a similair genre – photo story. In this work genres of photojournalism are analyzed theoretically, with accent on photo essay and photo story, wich are compared in their similarities and differences. Practical part of work consists of two photo essays on a same subject with a different approach. Same subject is processed narratively and thematically and research based on interview is to show which of the two series is more effective in representing ideas, thoughts, emotions and impressions.
