Abstract

Abstract in english: Following the trend of environmentlly friendly processes in the graphic technology where certain processes and chemicals are excluded, the aim of this work is to invent environmentally friendly printing plate for letterpress made from biodegradable materials. The essential materials that will be used for making these printing plates are biodegradable PLA (polylactic acid), PCL (polycaprolactone) and coconut fibers. PLA is biodegradable and bioactive thermoplastic aliphatic polyester made from renewable sources such as corn starch, tapioca root and sugar cane. PCL is biodegradable polyester with low melting point (around 60 °C). Various tests were made on the created polimers, for example differential scanning calorimetry, thermogravimetric analysis, measuring hardness of polymer, tensile strength test and determinating the surface free energy. The primary use of this material is printing plate for blind embossing.
