Abstract

Abstract in english: Underwater photography is an unusual and a specific form of photography. Alongside knowledge about photography, it is necessary to have insight into plant and animal life of the sea bed as well as diving. Being that the scenery is under water, the photographer is greatly limited which makes this type of photography a very challenging task. The conditions prevailing under water are different from recording on land because they are influenced by the clarity, depth of water and the conditions of illumination.Furthermore, underwater photography is also determined by the fact that the optical and physical characteristics of water greatly differ from those of air. The practical part of the paper presents underwater photographs taken by the author. The paper analyses filming/shooting conditions, various equipment being used, underwater moving, lighting, duration and all other relevant parameters. Cameras and underwater housings are analyzed separately as well as how to choose either of them depending on the characteristics of each photograph and the conditions of the shoot. The strobe/flash is also analyzed as basic equipment. Strobe light is usually required for quality underwater photographs since ambient light typically reaches only small depths. The key to safe diving lies in the knowledge of the water environment, wildlife, and the proper planning and preparation for diving.
